Commercial HVAC for Churches and Schools
Among our favorite projects are the churches and schools where we’ve successfully completed the design/build of new and retrofit HVAC, sheet metal installation and related equipment that operates quietly and is not seen by worshippers or students and their teachers.
These projects demand tight energy management as well as protection of the integrity of the existing architecture.
For the restoration of the historic St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington, Kentucky, Century Mechanical Solutions partnered with KZF Design and Klenco Construction to renovate the more than 100-year-old building. This project required piping underground and equipment behind walls or in the tightly confined basement. We also had to preserve mosaics, stained glass windows and an organ.
To modernize the church HVAC system, we installed a chilled glycol system, hot water boilers, fan coil units, split system air conditioning, and digital Carrier Comfort controls. We enabled church leaders to achieve their goals for energy use and cost savings — while also limiting noise and hiding the HVAC equipment to maintain interior and exterior church building aesthetics and acoustics. We also converted the original steam radiators to hot water to reduce the possibility of leaks.
